Patagonia lives by the southern summer — it's the window in which the trails, glaciers and boat excursions are at their best, and it determines whether our itinerary's Base of the Towers trek is experienced in comfort or amid unexpected closures.
November to March: the season we recommend
Long days (up to 17 hours of daylight in December), fully open trails, and the best time for the luxury boat excursion right up to Perito Moreno's blue wall. It's also the window in which we design the Base of the Towers trek in Torres del Paine, taking advantage of the long light so you don't have to start excessively early.
In Patagonia, the weather changes faster than the itinerary — that's why we never leave a single day to see each key viewpoint.
October and April: low season with good weather
Fewer tourists, softer rates, and still-reasonable weather — the ideal compromise if you'd rather avoid the high-season crowds without risking winter's extreme cold.
June to August: southern winter
Several trails and operators reduce service or close entirely, days are very short, and sub-zero temperatures are common. It's not the window we recommend for Torres del Paine, but El Calafate remains visitable — the Glaciarium, for instance, operates year-round.
Our recommendation
If the Base of the Towers trek is a priority, aim for December–February for the longest days and trails in their best condition. October and April are our secondary recommendation if you prefer fewer people without sacrificing too much weather.
